Content Management Systems or CMS...
What They Can Do for You

What a Content Management System Offers

Properly configured, a Content Management System has considerable benefits:

- You don't need technical skills to edit your content (text, images, links)
or need to contact your web person to make simple changes.

- You can edit from any Internet-connected computer with a username and password from anywhere at anytime.

- If your company has many content contributors, you can assign separate authoring, editing and final publishing rights to one or more people in your organization.  You can lock the backend structure of your site and only allow frontend (visible pages) to be revised.

Keep in mind, the software is free (its open source), but it needs to be configured for your site.
Secondly, initial configuration of your new CMS website and future structural changes will require knowledge of HTML and CSS or working with a web developer like us.

Drupal, WordPress and Joomla Content Management Systems

Content Management Systems (also known as Web Content Management or WCM) allow for non-technical users or groups of users (with specific access rights) to manage page content and database information on websites.  They use templates for a simplified user interface for adding, revising and deleting content.  Each has a specific use with some cross-over functions.  Essentially you can be more hands on when updating your web content, but not building the site (except for WordPress).

How We Can Work with You and Your CMS Website

WordPress is great for Blogging website development.  After its configured, you can get your thoughts on a website quickly and easily.  Google offers a similar platform for bloggers.  We can configure a WordPress or Google Blogging website for you or you can give it a try yourself.

Drupal is for coders or programmers and is quite powerful.  We can work with this product, but we'd have to discuss what your website functions are at this time and may be in the future.  Drupal may work just fine by giving you all the site functions you'd like or your may want more.  My thoughts: the user interface is limited so you may be disappointed with some results and you may run out of functions if you want many features in your CMS website.  If  you run out of features and extend your Drupal toolbox, you may have version updates to monitor.  Monitoring means revisions in the software of your updated module won't break the pages of  your site that use them.

If you need more features, a database driven site with PhP and MySQL (CMS-like, but built without the middle ware software) are completely customizable and provide all the features you'd like.  Read about our database driven business site information here.

Joomla is a solid mix of  both ease of use and power.  You can perform updates to your content without technical skills, but like any software there are limits, so let's talk about the features you need now and possibly in the next few years.

Here are the steps we follow to build your Joomla CMS website from design to training.

We're finding businesses and organizations are sending timely email with rich content, but not updating their websites because one staff member may be the to do person and it gets delayed.  This leaves your customers searching their emails for information that should be on the website.  Content Management allows anyone you designate to update where you specify.

We can configure your site to work with Joomla, then you can edit easily. Converting from a basic website to CMS takes some work, but the payoff to you is huge (remember: timely website updates by anyone, from any computer, with no tech knowledge).  If you need to allow a limited group of users authoring, editing or publishing rights, we can configure for you.  If you'd like some of your content behind a password, we can do it for you.  You can work on content (good use of your time) and we can add buttons/pages to your menu etc.

This product may work just fine or again you may want custom features.  It's best if we remain close to the core of Joomla and not add any plug-ins or add-ins if possible to keep maintenance of your site low cost.  We'd be best to discuss details with you.
